Estimation guides
Whether your team calls it planning poker, scrum poker or pointing poker, the idea is the same: estimate independently, reveal together, and use the disagreement.

- Estimate Jira tickets with planning pokerExport a search to CSV, estimate together, then bring the story points back.

Planning poker questions
Is Nextretro planning poker free?
Yes. You can create a room, invite your whole team and estimate as many tickets as you like without paying or creating an account. There are no caps on votes per game. Sign in only if you want to keep your rooms next to your retrospective boards.
How do you play planning poker?
The facilitator shares a ticket, the team discusses it, and everyone picks a card in secret. All cards are revealed at once. If estimates are far apart, the highest and lowest voters explain their reasoning and the team votes again until it agrees on a number.
How is planning poker used in Scrum?
Teams use planning poker during backlog refinement or sprint planning to size product backlog items in story points. The shared estimate helps the team decide how much work fits into a sprint and surfaces hidden complexity before anyone commits to it.
Can I import tickets from Jira, Linear or Azure DevOps?
Yes. Paste a list of titles, or upload the CSV export from Jira, Linear or Azure DevOps. Each row becomes a ticket in the queue, and you can export the final estimates as CSV to bring them back into your tracker.
Which estimation scales can I use?
Choose Fibonacci (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21), modified Fibonacci (0, ½, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 20, 40, 100), T-shirt sizes (XS to XXL) or powers of 2 (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32). Every deck includes a question mark and a coffee card.
Is 1 story point equal to 1 day?
No. Story points measure relative effort, complexity and uncertainty, not time. A 2 point story should feel about twice as big as a 1 point story. Your team’s velocity over several sprints is what connects points to calendar time.
Do participants need an account?
No. Share the room link and teammates join with just a display name, on desktop or mobile. Nothing to install, and no email address is needed to vote.
